Globalization
has been a controversial concept in our daily lives, with a wide range of
definitions from communication, cultural, economic and political aspects. As it
is regarded as an influential concept to the world, it is important to
understand what it is and how it can affect us. In fact, we can see many examples of globalization
in our daily lives in different aspects.
When we speak of global
communication or communication technologies, Internet is always the first thing
we would think of. As a matter of fact, the Internet can be regarded as the
most important technology developed over the last decade, and it helps to
enhance our old way of communication into a global scale, such as the
social media networks.
In terms of the global
economy, defined by Schifferes (2007), globalization refers to the growing economic
integration of the world as trade, investment and money increasingly cross
international borders. (Which
may or may not have political or cultural implications).”
In
such sense, economic globalization affects not only global economy, but also in
other aspects. Such implications brought by economic globalization therefore
have led to another controversial concept – “Westernization”, as what it
literally means, the cultures from the rest of the world have been affected and
“westernized”, for example, the McDonald culture.
It
seems that the concept of globalization favors only the western countries and
is unfair to the rest of the world, or the poor countries (as the
well-developed countries would definitely have the power to influence the
global economy). However, we have to as well realize how the concept helps to
develop a better world and enrich human’s daily lives, such as the enhanced
communication.

Is Globalisation good or bad? I think it depends who you ask. As you have stated in your conclusion, globalisation heavily favours western countries, thus excluding developing, poorer countries. And while yes developed countries act under the umbrella of helping these developing countries in to developed countries, it is not to the likes of everyone involved. Developing countries risk much loss in this process including their own cultural identity. Thus I don’t think globalisation can be classified as ‘good’ or ‘bad’ rather a series of changes have varying effects on the players.

Throughout the blog you have successfully managed to develop a tone that sounds both informative and relatable, the aspect of your blog that seemed the most favourable was the way you managed to incorporate your references and make them sound as if they were your own opinion. You highlight the topic well, keep a consistent flow of information, well toned blog and have been able to achieve the goal of making your readers understand and ponder the idea of Globalisation.

ReplyDeleteYes, the globalization is effect our live, especially in communication way. The Internet is great invention, people can just stay at home and click mouse than know many things, also no longer limit by the geography to communicate with other side of world. i think how to keep the own culture is very important. In globalization we don't need to assimilation or be assimilated by other culture. Globalization good or bad is hard to say now, it is depend on many factors. Thanks for sharing your idea.
