With the improving technology, our ways of communication have been enhanced at a global scale, Internet allows us to communicate without any geographical restriction. Information being shared on the Internet provides people more knowledge and giving us a cultural swap between different people. In other words, technology does not only affect communication, but the culture as well. With the tremendous amount of immigration and information being exchanged, local culture is no longer something that will always keep constant but
will change with the environment over time, different cultures have been penetrating to
a society giving a hybridized culture (Moore, 2012), in every corners around
the world.
Local culture, nowadays, is merely a way to identify ourselves where do we come from. However, people can as well show a foreign culture in a country
(wikihow, 2012), It is common to see a hybridized culture in a society. For example, we could see a China Town in Melbourne and Australians use chopstick to eat in a Chinese restaurant while Chinese will drink beer during festivals. Such cultural swaps between people and countries are giving a hybridized culture to a society.
With the technology advancement nowadays, we have been contributing to our national culture further, try to search "Chinese Chess" in the iPhone app store, a chess game created long time ago in China, has been further spread to the other countries. In fact, with the constantly changing environment, we have been contributing to our national or local culture in another society, and meanwhile adapting to the surrounding culture.

I really liked how you focused on what you needed to discuss in the first paragraph and then continued onto the second to explain in depth through examples/ additional information and then continued once again to expand on your ideas and shed meaning to the examples you gave. Your picture could be misleading only because it doesn't really have direct relation but it is symbolic for asian culture so a sense it could be appropriate- just depending on your audience.
ReplyDeleteI agree that technologies does not only affect the communication, but also the culture. Globalisation, technology/media and culture have a strong connection, and they link to each other and also have influence to each parts.
ReplyDeleteAnd its very true that the local culture will not always keep constant, no only because of the process of globalisation, but also related to how the people view their culture. is it really valuable to them? if they no interested to maintain and protest it, what will it leave?
I think Chinese chess is a good example because it is a typical Chinese culture. Many people saying that internet is ruining our culture, but this is a good example that Traditional culture can become a part of modern culture. I think you can point out more good examples about how can traditional culture and technologies combined together, such as solitaire on computer and etc.
